Bandarawela Hotel - Sri Lanka Hotels

2**+from £699
per person, 7 Nights Package on B&B Basis
Bandarawela Hotel - Introduction
Bandarawela Hotel has colonial charm and comfort in the tea country. Built in the traditional style, yet showing a marked British influence with its old world charm and graciousness, Bandarawela Hotel is situated over 4000 ft above sea level and is Sri Lanka's first mountain resort hotel to be built by the British over 100 years ago. Bandarawela Hotel's origins date back to when the railways were being extended by the British from Nanu Oya to the southern highlands. The Nuwara Eliya tea planters soon saw the potential of what was then a little-known village hamlet and it soon developed into a popular holiday retreat, especially for planters and railway employees.

Over the years, little has changed at the hotel with the history of a bygone era literally hanging to the walls. Slumber on an immaculate antique four poster bed, take a leisurely stroll through an old city or enjoy a fine "cuppa" on the lawn with some freshly baked cakes. Bandarawela Hotel is a welcome alternative and well-suited for guests looking for a conveniently-located hotel offering colonial-style mid-range accommodation and facilities.

Bandarawela Hotel Location Details

The Bandarawela Hotel is situated in the centre of Bandarawela town, 4,000ft above sea level and within walking distance from the railway station, and is a convenient base from which to explore the sights of the southern highlands. Surrounded by hills and tea plantations, the town of Bandarawela is the perfect getaway from Sri Lanka's tropical heat. The town enjoys spring like weather throughout the year. A favourite retreat of the British during colonial times, Bandarawela is dotted with English country style houses and sprawling gardens. Bandarawela is also a busy market town and was once said to have one of the healthiest climates in the world. Some of the best and most 'flavoured tea' is said to come from this area. The best pears and strawberries are also grown here since the climate is dry and mild. Bandarawela can be accessed via Ratnapura or Nuwara Eliya. The scenic towns of Ella and Haputale are just half an hour away. Bandarawela is an ideal base for excursions to Horton Plains, Adisham Monastery, the tea plantations, nearby waterfalls, Udawalawe Wildlife Sanctuary and Hakgala Botanical Gardens.
